Welcome to the course website for OLLI 20026 Social Media: Practice and Critique!

A short course for the University of Minnesota College of Continuing Education’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, this class is catered toward adult-returning and retired students who have novice experience with various social media. The goal of this course is to provide a safe and productive learning space for participants to experiment with contemporary social media, to ask tough questions of the social media used, and to consider how social media alters our home, work, and social lives.

Every generation has expertise and knowledge to offer other generations. Working from this perspective, this course seeks to pool the collective knowledge of multi-generational participants in order to better understand contemporary social media, technology, and the Internet.

This course will also focus on popular social media tool and services, including but not limited to: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, blogging, organizational instant messaging, and others.
